Volunteering
Volunteers are welcome by arrangement in advance. We prefer you to stay for at least 6 months, so that you and the children can get to know each other and you can do some useful work.
Your role in the program
Volunteers do not necessarily need care giving experience. All we ask is that you come with energy, enthusiasm, an open mind and an open heart. With little resources at the orphanage it would be appreciated if the volunteers bring educational resources, art supplies or DVDs with children's songs.
Volunteers help in developing creative programs such as art, music, dance, games, dressing, helping with their homework. Additional help on day trips, sanitation, cooking, administration , gardening, building, or helping in one of our community projects may be needed. One of the most wonderful opportunities that volunteering with OK can give is the chance to share your love.
Skills and Educational Qualifications Required
There is no educational requirement for your stay. Anyone with a heart to serve is welcome at the orphanage, however, proficiency in English is required. People should be patient, committed and willing to learn.
Conditions of stay
- There will be no smoking or drinking of any kind of alcohol at the orphanage or on any Oz Kids property.
- No elicit drugs of any kind will be tolerated.
- Volunteers are asked to be back at a reasonable hour each night.
- No bad language or behaviour will be accepted
- Volunteers wishing to leave the orphanage for a period of time(days) must let staff know.
